Description

	Midian Electronics' IS-1 is an interoperability switch or a cross-band repeater maker for allowing 2 radio systems on different channels or different bands to communicate with one another. For example a UHF radio system and an HF SSB radio system can interoperate or a VHF radio system can interoperate with a UHF P25 radio system. 

	

	When the IS-1 sees COR or VOX from radio system 1, the IS-1 will give a PTT output to radio system 2 and pass the audio from radio 1 to radio 2. The IS-1 can be powered by a 9 Volt battery for more than 40 hours, or can get the power from an external source such as a mobile radio or from an optional wall power adaptor. A monitor output is available for monitoring the radio traffic or outputting to a voice recorder.


Applications

	The IS-1 is ideal for interagency cooperation in emergency situations such as search & rescue, emergency relief, hostage situations, etc.


Installation

	Midian offers optional preconfigured cables for plug and play installation for some radios. Otherwise the IS-1 easily connects between 2 two-way radios for interoperability.

	Description



	Midian's IS-2 is designed to permit interoperability between two radios of virtually any type or as a cross band repeater maker. The IS-2 can interoperate two radio systems from the following system types:

	

	• Conventional VHF and UHF

	• Trunking Systems

	• HF radios

	• APCO 25

	• Motorola's MotoTRBO

	• Kenwood's NEXEDGE

	• Icom's IDAS

	• TETRA

	• Optional 4-wire interface

	

	The IS-2 takes the receive audio from one radio "1" and feeds it into the opposite radio "2's" microphone circuit. When using portables the receive audio from radio "1" is detected by the IS-2's VOX circuit keying radio "2" which passes the above mentioned audio to radio "2".

	

	When using mobile radios, the VOX is not used and instead the IS-2 converts the COR from radio "1" to a push to talk signal keying radio "2".

	

	The IS-2 has trunking delay inputs with a voice buffer for use in trunking systems. For example if radio "1" is conventional and radio "2" is trunked, when someone on radio system "1" transmits and starts talking the IS-2 starts recording the audio (up to 4 seconds). Once a channel has been acquired by radio "2" the IS-2 will pass the buffered voice to radio "2" for transmitting along with the remainder of the message.

	

	There is a monitor output jack that can be used for recording or monitoring audio with an earphone or speaker amplifier.

	

	There is a DTMF decoder to activate and deactivate the unit from field radios using the keypad on the radio or an ANI sequence on a dedicated channel. The IS-2 will generate a medium tone followed by a high tone when activated and a medium tone followed by a low tone when deactivated.



	Applications



	The IS-2 is ideal for interagency cooperation in emergency situations such as search & rescue, emergency relief, hostage situations, etc.



	Installation



	Midian offers optional preconfigured cables for plug and play installation for some radios. Otherwise the IS-2 easily connects between 2 two-way radios for interoperability.

	Description



	Midian's RIC-8 is a DTMF equipped tone remote controller. Up to eight RIC-8 units can be connected in parallel or in series over a dedicated line. The tone remote controller equipped with DTMF dialing sends DTMF commands to allow the RIC-8 units and their associated repeaters to interoperate. The RIC-8 is a special tone remote adaptor that generates 2175 Hz keying tone when the radio's COR is present. The 2175 Hz keying tone activates only the radios that have received a DTMF activation code from a DTMF equipped tone remote controller or field radio. All disabled RIC-8 units ignore the 2175 Hz keying tone.

	

	For example if the dispatcher using the TRC in the diagram below wants to talk to users on Repeater 1 and 3, the dispatcher would first send the prefix digits followed by the RIC-8 ID's. If the prefix is programmed as ** and the RIC-8 ID's are 1 and 3, the dispatcher would enter **13 on the DTMF keypad of the TRC. This command would enable Repeaters 1 and 3 and allow the dispatcher to talk to users on both repeaters, as well as users on Repeaters 1 and 3 to talk back to the dispatcher and to units on the other enabled repeater. Users on other connected repeaters would not hear anything because their repeaters are not enabled. Once the conversation is completed sending only the prefix digits again would disable the link. All Repeaters can be controlled simulcast by encoding the prefix digits along with the Simulcast ID (typically DTMF digit 9) (i.e. **9).

	

	In order for a DTMF field radio to establish a link, the user must first enable their RIC-8 and then enable the link with the desired repeater(s). For example if a user on repeater 1 wants to interoperate with Repeaters 3 and 8, the user would first enter **1 then **138. Entering ** only would then terminate the link.

	

	



	Applications



	The RIC-8 is used in systems that need interoperability between radios users on different repeaters.



	Installation



	Up to eight RIC-8 units are connected by a dedicated phone line, telemetry link or microwave to key one another. The RIC-8 looks for a COR indication from the repeater to generate the keying tones.

	Description



	The RIC-2 is a tone remote adaptor that allows two repeaters connected by a dedicated phone line, telemetry link or microwave to key one another. For instance when Repeater A receives a signal from a portable or mobile radio, the repeater gives a COR signal to the RIC-2. The RIC-2 will generate 2175 Hz high-level guard tone, function tone and low-level guard tone to Repeater B's RIC-2 to key Repeater B and re-transmit the audio coming from Repeater A. Function tone F4 is used to have Repeater A key Repeater B and function tone F5 to have Repeater B key Repeater A.

	

	Additionally, a tone remote controller can be connected to the two RIC-2 units for steering control mode. In addition to the scenario above, the tone remote controller can transmit to Repeater A using function tone F1, Repeater B using function tone F2 or simulcast to both Repeaters A and B using function tone F3.
